PARIS    -   "A taste of  ..."

SUGGESTED ITINERARY (walking discovery) :  3 days / 2 nights

 

HOST FAMILY or Youth Hostel Accomodation


DAY 1 :  Mythical Paris

Arrival at approx.13.00 hrs.

Walk from the Arc de Triomphe and the tomb of the unknown soldier, down the Champs Elysées avenue to the Place de la Concorde with its Obelisk, then through the Tuileries gardens and the Orangerie (which housed the complete cycle   of « the Nymphéas » of Claude Monet) and then to the Louvres Museum and it’s glass pyramid.

Departure from the heart of Paris at about 17.30 ; meet with host families in the south of Paris at about 19.00 hrs depending on the traffic.

Suggested visits (*):  the Orangerie (Nymphéas cycle)


DAY 2 :  Monumental Paris

Approx.08.15 hrs. Departure from the accomodation area.

Depending on the traffic, the group will start its walk at about 10.15hrs from the Pont   Alexandre III then to the « Esplanade des Invalides », a magnificent ensemble which   houses Ministries and Museums, unmistakable thanks to its golden Dom, and its   wonderfull lawn. Then joining the Champs de Mars, vast park laid out below the Eiffel Tower. Climbing up to the 1st & 2nd floor. Before leaving the left bank : a look at the famous Musée du Quai Branly (3 walking min from the Tower) which is sheltered from the   road by a high glass palissad and half-hidden by a garden. On the opposite   bank of the river Seine, the Trocadero, privileged viewpoint on the Tower. Up to the Trocadero Place and the vast Palais de Chaillot, through the terraces and gardens (skaters and rollerbladers used to weave alongside the fountains).

  Departure from the heart of Paris at about 17.30 ; meet with host families in the south of     Paris at about 19.00 hrs depending on the traffic.

 

Suggested visist (*): The Eiffel Tower : 1st and 2nd floor by steps 

 

(about 10 min to the1st floor and 10 extra min to the second one)


DAY 3 :  TIMELESS Paris

  Approx.08.15 hrs. Departure from the accomodation area.

  Depending on the traffic, the group will start its walk at about 10.15hrs in the quartier Latin, from the Boulevard St Michel passing the Sorbonne Universityand crossing the  river Seine to the Ile de la Cité. Next to the law court and the Conciergerie, the Sainte Chapelle with its marvellous stained-glass windows, and finally Notre Dame Cathedral.    

Lunch in the Square Jean XXIII behind the cathedral, and if enough time before  departure, crossing on the Pont St Louis (often with music) to reach the Ile St Louis to have a look on the magnificient mansion houses, and numerous tempting windows of     cafés, ice-makers, restaurants,…

  Day 1 - Musée du Louvres (to discover a few masterpieces, such as the Mona Lisa)

  Day 2 – Musée du Quai Branly -  Museum of Modern Arts -  Les égouts de Paris (underground Paris)

          Boat trip on the river Seine 

  Day 3 -  Tower of Notre Dame

Please note that most of museums and monuments are closed on Tuesday.
